Manatee Medicinals Pop-Up

Tavi is a multi-disciplinary, Black, Indigenous, Jewish, disabled, queer femme writer, herbalist and storytelling artist with a background in journalism, performance, community organizing, and bodywork. They have been offering community care work formally since 2018 via their small batch herbal medicine business, Manatee Medicinals, and most recently as the new host of the rise up! good witch podcast. She currently sells medicine via an online apothecary, offers 1-on-1 consultations and care work via peer support and herbal peer support sessions. Always prioritizing BIPOC, Queer, and Disabled communities, her current calling along with medicine-making is the radical work of exploring new healing pathways, nervous system health, implementing slowness and rest, and connecting people with ourselves, each other, plants, animals and the land as we learn to fight back together against the violence of imperialism, capitalism, and global oppression in all its insidious forms. Tavi graduated from East West College of Healing Arts in 2020 with an 800-hour degree in massage therapy, and has taught herbal medicine classes and workshops at Reed college, Atabey Plant Medicine Apprenticeship, and various community centers.

Tavi makes internal medicine such as herbal tinctures, teas and elixirs, and specializes in pain-relieving external medicines like infused herbal CBD salves, massage oils, and bath salts. I try to use clear labeling for allergy-clarity, and never use "fragrances" in any of my products, only limited essential oils. My infused CBD bath salts are complex blends of herbs, oils and salts that offer unique "Spiritual Bath Rituals" for customers to hopefully connect deeper with their own hearts and spirits while relaxing muscles and soothing pain.

Cyanotype Saturday

Cyanotype Saturday - August 19th 10:30 am - 12:30 pm - make your own cyanotype workshop!

SIGN UP HERE: https://rchlmldr.com/shop/p/cyanotype-saturday-aug19

I’m so excited to invite you to join me to explore the alchemical magic of cyanotype with me at Grover’s Curiosity Shop! In this workshop, each participant will be invited to create one to three cyanotypes on 9 x 12 inch watercolor paper! This alternative photo process uses chemicals and sunlight to create stunning and mysterious images that transform when rinsed in water! Also known as "sun prints", this accessible medium involves placing objects onto treated paper, becoming blue wherever the sun's rays have reached it.

Rachel will provide a short demo and share examples of her work. Then, each participant will make their very own 8 x 10 inch cyanotypes on watercolor paper! Rachel will be bringing materials like paper, tchotchkes, fun see-through things, natural objects, etc. for you to play with! Feel empowered to bring your own special treasures, as long as you don’t mind it cooking in the sun for a bit :)

$45/per person, 10 people max.
Grover’s Curiosity Shop
1410 SE Clinton Street
Portland, Oregon

Access notes: Masks strongly encouraged while indoors, and I will be wearing mine at all times. Air conditioned space. We will expose our cyanotypes in the sun, so we will venture outside with our artworks for 10-15 minutes so please dress appropriately for hot weather and sun. Located at 1410 SE Clinton Street. Wheelchair accessible entrance, restroom has support bar, but cannot accommodate a wheelchair. Near the 12th/clinton max stop, bus lines 9, 10, 17 and fx2. Street parking available.

Creative Writing Accountability Night

Do you have writing ideas, but have difficulty setting aside the time for them? In this low-stress class, we’ll spend each session writing together as a group. With group check-ins and optional prompts, this is a gentle way to keep yourself accountable. Perfect for both those who have a project in mind and those who just want to get started on their creative writing journey.

Suggested $10 donation. Drop-in or RSVP via email (joshuajamberson@gmail.com) or Venmo (@antiquatedfuture).

Note: these will run Tuesday nights from late July to late August. Feel free to come to all six sessions, or just drop in for one! Hopefully each week will be a mix of repeat attendees and newcomers.

Led by Portland author and Grover's artist-in-residence, Joshua James Amberson.
